Yedioth Information Technologies and PowerID Partner to Market PaperVue

RFID-Enabled Solution Cuts Costs Related to Newsprint Logistics, Control, and Complaints Processing

Vienna, Austria and Petah Tikva, Israel – October 8, 2007 – Yedioth Information Technologies Ltd., a leading provider of IT solutions for the media industry, and PowerID Ltd., the industry leader in battery-assisted, passive (BAP) RFID technology, announced today a partnership to develop and market PaperVue. Enabling real-time tracking and visibility of paper reels, from mill to printer house, the PaperVue solution has been developed to reduce costs associated with newsprint purchasing, transport, inventory, production control, and complaints processing.

Utilizing PowerID’s PowerR™ labels, the new solution overcomes the distinct limitations of barcode technologies, the limited performance of standard passive RFID, and the high cost of active RFID. By combining Yedioth Information Technologies’ specially-designed software with PowerR RFID labels, printer houses and their suppliers can now realize the benefits of the first integrated solution for tracking paper reels throughout the newsprint supply chain.

“We are excited about partnering with PowerID,” said Assaf Avrahami, CEO of Yedioth Information Technologies.  “After exploring various RFID options, we chose to deploy PowerID hardware at our own print sites.  By using PowerID labels and leveraging our knowledge of the print and media world, we can offer print houses and newsprint manufacturers real-time reel visibility and reduced supply chain costs.”

With over 40% of a typical printer’s costs attributed to newsprint logistics and processing, and to date, the lack of critical examination and analysis of these costs by most print houses and newsprint manufacturers, PaperVue is ideal for delivering fast and cost-effective return-on-investment (ROI) by reducing supply chain costs and inventory-related waste.

Israel’s leading daily newspaper, Yedioth Ahronoth, has deployed PaperVue and successfully piloted it in June-August 2007.  Read rates were 99.99% and initial indications demonstrate that ROI can be achieved in approximately one year.  Following the summer pilot, Yedioth Ahronoth asked its paper suppliers to tag its newsprint reels, and by the end of the year, thousands of PowerR-tagged reels will be delivered and processed by PaperVue.

“PowerR labels have been successfully used by leading paper manufacturers and newspaper printers,” said Erez Kahani, CEO of PowerID. “Joining forces with Yedioth Ahronoth to market PaperVue provides both parties with a unique opportunity to cater to the needs of the newspaper and media markets by offering a solution that is tailored to their specific requirements.”

Yedioth Information Technologies and PowerID will be demonstrating the PaperVue solution at IFRAExpo, Stand B267, October 8-11, 2007 in Vienna, Austria.
